Continuing Medical Education - General
Information & FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
1. How do I register for CME courses?
You may register online (see registration link), or by
contacting the hosting department listed next to the activity offered.
2. When are activities held?
There are ongoing CME activities such as Grand Rounds,
Morbidity and Mortality held every weekday in almost every department. (see
regularly scheduled activities) In addition there are episodic, or one-time
conferences, which are held about once a year. (see courses)
3. Where do I get more information about individual UIC
CME activities?
Call the contact person shown on the activity chart at
the number listed.
4. If I am a faculty member in the UIC College of
Medicine, how do I apply to have my activity certified for
CME credit?
See application materials under the support materials
section.
5. What is the deadline for submission of activity
proposals?
Ideally, at least three months before the first date the
activity takes place by the first of the month.
6. When should I expect to receive a certificate or
transcript verifying my participation?
For episodic live episodic activities, certificates may
be distributed immediately after the activity to those who registered with the
department in advance. Certificates will be prepared within two weeks from
submission of the attendance list to the CME office following an activity.
Attendance for regularly scheduled activities is only
submitted once a year, in July. Transcripts are usually sent in early
September. They include all UIC CME activities an individual has attended that
year
7. How much do these activities cost to attend?
Costs vary depending on duration, location, type of
instruction and what else may be included (eg., meals). These fees are set by
the sponsoring departments. In general, UIC faculty members may attend as many
regularly scheduled activities as they wish for one registration fee. (Link to
registration)
Non-UIC faculty members may also attend as many
regularly scheduled activities as they wish for one slightly higher
registration fee. (Link to registration)
Episodic activities are priced separately by the
departments and fees are collected by them.
